Misdemeanors are any criminal case in which a person can be sentenced up to a year in jail.

Misdemeanors are any criminal case in which a person can be sentenced up to a year in jail.  Some examples of misdemeanors are most conviction for driving under the influence, battery, driving without a license, and the first conviction for petty theft.  Some crimes such as domestic violence, auto theft, and second degree burglary can be charged as either a felony or a misdemeanor.  These are known as “wobblers”.
